OS workshops 2019-2020

Since 2002 the CDM organizes in Rome a longer training course for teachers and music teachers working in nursery and primary schools, entitled “Orff-Schulwerk – Elemental Music and Movement Education“. Since 2007 the course is realised by CDM in collaboration with the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.

The course is shaped in such a form so as to respect the guidelines for teacher education courses given by the Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg, to which the CDM is affiliated.

Regularly included within this course are workshops given by teachers from the Orff-Institute, University “Mozarteum”, Salzburg, Austria, or belonging to the Orff-Schulwerk international circle.

The workshops in English offered at CDM in 2019-20 will be:

Keith Terry – percussionist and dancer
Friday 18 (17.00-20.30)  Saturday 19 (15.30-20.00) Sunday 20 October 2019 (9.00-16.30) – 12 h

Playing with the Elements of Music  workshop deleted

James Harding– San Francisco School, USA

Saturday 28 – Sunday 29 March 2020
Sat 3.30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.
Sun 9.00 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.

Orff Schulwerk distinguishes itself from other approaches to music education in its emphasis on music as a creative discipline, where children make discoveries through active play with the elements of music. In this workshop, we will be focusing on composition projects with children from early Elementary through Middle School. While for many people the word “composition” conjures up images of a lone composer scrawling down marks on manuscript paper by candlelight, in Orff Schulwerk compositions are built by groups of children often without the use of notation. Projects will include work in visual art, video and animation as well as the more traditional Orff Schulwerk media of singing, barred instruments, percussion, dance, and drama.

Playing with songs – activities for inclusive groups

Shirley Salmon – Orff-Institut, Università Mozarteum Salisburgo, Austria

Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 April 2020
Sat 3.30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.
Sun 9.00 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.

Play songs can provide the starting point for a variety of creative activities with music, movement, voice, play materials, and social games – especially for children with diverse abilities in inclusive classrooms. In a multi-sensory approach play-songs offer children a multitude of creative possibilities. Each child can participate at his/her level and the activities aim to support each child’s individual development. In this workshop we will focus on:

  • sensory sensitization and movement
  • games and activities with the voice – speaking, saying, singing
  • elemental accompanying
  • experimenting and improvising with movement, voice and instruments,
  • social forms and creative work
